Great value for making the most of a NYC trip"
My own approach to a hotel in a destination like NYC is that I don't expect to spend much time in the hotel room; there's far too much interesting to do elsewhere. Hotel 17 was a great base for the trip, on a charming block, and fit well with our budget and time constraints. This hotel was clean, well maintained, and charming. The room was small, but, again, I wasn't planning on holding any lavish parties there. The shared bathrooms were not a problem; I never had to wait for one, and found them clean, nearby and functional. I also found the staff businesslike and friendly.
About the only complaint we had was the noise of/blow-off from the air conditioner. The unit itself seemed new and worked fine, and would not have seemed unduly noisy or inconvenient in a larger room. But in this small room it seemed loud and blew a bit hard on the bed when one was trying to sleep. I have found, though, that climate control is often an Achilles' heel in hotels generally, not just this one. It wouldn't keep me from staying again.

Perfect match for the Price"
Centrally located close to Union Square Subway with lots of eateries in all types of cuisines and budget and a 7-Eleven/ Traders Joe in walking distance - you would be hard pressed to find a more perfect match in NY for the price. The housekeeping is really good, the front office staff very helpful (they have a locker room for keeping luggage if you come in early or want to leave late after check out). The rooms are small, but considering that you are out most of the day this should not be a problem. If you are in a room with shared bathroom, no worries- there are enough toilets /bathrooms and the housekeeping is pretty good. No complaints about sleeping quality- the beds are comfortable.

Very good hotel - great value for money"
The hotel is located in a very central and safe area. Coming home even late at night feels safe! In addition, there are many restaurants just a few blocks away and you can choose from almost everything you want (fast food or fine dining, different international cuisines). Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, the bathrooms were always clean and room service is only provided if you tag your room (which is good as it helps protect the environment). The only thing we did not like was the WIFI-connection which was not really reliable.
When coming to New York again, we would definitely consider staying here again, not only for its very good value for money but also for its location and staff.
Thank you for that great NYC experience!!!

Perfect!"
Fantastic stay. Location was perfect. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Room was a nice size for two people - we had clean & comfortable beds, a television, clock radio, sink, coffee maker, lots of towels, soaps and shampoos. Two washrooms were just down the hall - we were hesitant abt bathroom sharing but it was a non-issue. There was never a line up, it was always spotless and the shower had great water pressure and lots of hot water. We will definitely stay again, price was right and the stay was great! Felt like locals rather than visitors.

H17 close 2 USQ"
My childhood friend and I stayed @ H17 which we enjoyed a lot. Reception guys are always friendly and helpful in all matters. I have lived at Hotel 17 more than once thru the years and will be back! Rooms are clean and shower & wc in the hallway as well. I´ll recommend H17 because this area is vibrant and the proximity to Union Sq with several subway lines and the market plus East Village.

Charming"
Great location near subways, buses and walking distance to whatever you need. The rooms are small and basic but very comfortable. Shared bathrooms were not an issue, they were very clean and were always accessible. Staff is friendly and helpful.
